INCONCEIVABLE WILSON nicely reviewed at The Collagist

In the latest issue of The Collagist, Ethan Joella gave a succinct & pervasive & grand review of my debut novel(la) INCONCEIVABLE WILSON, saying among other things:

"..the tranquil, masterful way Tyler returns to his themes reminds one of mellow ocean waves that keep returning, a subtle artistry that impresses and reminds: Thoughts return. Images return. We deal with life again and again in different ways and through different perspectives..."

I have one signed-copy to send out in thanks to whoever is reading this & has yet to read INCONCEIVABLE WILSON (just email me here), the second & third & so-on persons can get a copy here though for a mere $12 & in support of a press that already published Shane Jones & is looking forward to publishing Matthew Savoca & Kendra Grant Malone.

a new piece up at Word Riot, & my longest book to date: WATER

Up in the new issue of Word Riot is my piece 'An Episode of Hills'. You can read it in the stretching-forms section &/or listen to me reading it here.

This is a small piece of a 10k word prelude to my longest project ever, tentatively entitled WATER. More of these episodes of the prelude are forthcoming with decomP, Prick of the Spindle, & the Moon Milk Review anthology. These are all episodes of children in the rain, children killing children, children taken down to remains.

Another part of this book called WATER is the chapbook OUR US & WE, recently released from Greying Ghost & available now in a limited-edition run of 100 copies here. It is about parents losing a child under water, a boy lost to the woods & frozen in a lake.

There is also another chapbook portion in WATER called WOODS that was just rejected by a chapbook contest. It's okay. I accept defeat with melancholy fingers. But some of the WOODS pieces will be appearing soon in Caketrain, trnfr, & JMWW. They are surreal vignettes about a man in the woods & a woman in the ocean & children who are gone but still want to hear stories.

What is also in WATER is my five-part revisionist story ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ that will be simultaneously released in May 2012 in four chapbooks from Greying Ghost, Pangur Ban Party, NewLights Press, & Warm Milk Printing Press & as a free online segment with The Collagist. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ is the five-part re-telling of the last water taken from a girl & the boy who finds her.

What will finish-off this book called WATER are three new sections I am writing now: 'Noah', 'Dryness as a Sore on the Body', & 'The Lake is a Mouth'. Those will make WATER my first genuine novel at around 80-85K words. I don't know what that means, but I hope something good.

Writing Workshop ( / ) Worship with ( / ) of Mathias Svalina

It is no surprise that I love Mathias Svalina's writing. After all, Mud Luscious Press is publishing his novel(la) I AM A VERY PRODUCTIVE ENTREPRENEUR in 2011. But you never know what to expect when you meet someone in person, like how I met Mathias for the first time last Saturday when he lectured & work-shopped with the Colorado State University National Writing Project.

What I learned: Mathias Svalina is a kind & nice & personable person. Mathias Svalina understands how to teach about writing. Mathias Svalina takes armloads of grocery store receipts in order to write out of them. Mathias Svalina is a bad-ass writer & I am lucky to know him.

When someone says 'hey, attend this writing workshop / reading' you should.

Don't even think about it, just go.
